Daily Amar Desh

The Daily Amar Desh is a Bengali newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was founded on 23 September 2004 by BNP politician Mosaddek Ali Falu and NTV's managing director Enayetur Rahman Bappi. Amar Desh Publications owns it. The Daily Amar Desh’s founding editor is Amanullah Kabir. Mahmudur Rahman bought it on 6 October 2008, when Mosaddek Ali Falu was imprisoned. In times of changing the ownership, Ataus Samad was the acting editor. After that, Mahmudur Rahman became the chairperson of Amar Desh Publications Ltd and was appointed the acting editor of the newspaper. The Daily Amar Desh takes an editorial position that favors the BNP (Bangladesh National Party). It is widely considered that this newspaper misrepresented activists (mainly bloggers) who participated in the 2013 Shahbag protests (that demanded capital punishment for all war criminals) and contributed to widespread religious tensions and civil unrest. The Daily Amar Desh has a circulation of 200,000 copies daily.

After winning the 2008 General Election of Bangladesh, the Awami League government twice closed down the Daily Amar Desh. On 1 June 2010, the editor was arrested, and the government shut the newspaper down for 10 days and arrested its acting editor, Mahmudur Rahman. At that time, the France-based international organization Reporters Without Borders (RWB) stated that the Bangladeshi government could not tolerate its criticism. The Daily Amar Desh was shut down, and its editor was arrested again on 11 April 2013.

The Daily Amar Desh mainly publishes news focusing on Bangladesh from national and regional perspectives. It also covers World News. Its regular features cover a wide range of topics, such as entertainment, Business and Trade, ICT, Sports (Both Domestic and International), Travel and Living, Fashion, Agriculture and Industry, Career Education, Health and Beauty, and more. It also has weekly feature pages, which are Biggan O Computer (Science and ICT Related Magazine), Amar Jibon, Khela (Sports Magazine), Campus, Shahitto Shamoyiki (Literary Magazine), Vimrul (Fun Magazine) and Shonali Rupali (Entertainment and Showbiz).
